Integrative Work

Social responsibility affects us all. Whether in a normal conversation on the street, in our families or at work. Looking out for each other and ensuring that everyone can be a happy and satisfied part of our society is important for all of us. We also wanted to bring this idea of community into our company. Dogs aren't called the souls on four paws for nothing, so why shouldn't people let these loyal souls bring a bit of warmth to them?

Our products are made by hand. This is important to us as it enables us to maintain the high quality of the products and offer our furry friends and owners what they want: Quality, heart and a personalised piece to which memories can be attached. But this manual labour is also accompanied by a social context. Viktoria has already been able to establish contact with workshops for disabled people in her previous careers. As part of her training as an occupational therapist, she came into contact with the people and managers there. They immediately took a liking to each other, so it was clear from the start that those people should be part of Emmy and Pepe. What's more, Viktoria worked in an intensive care unit before Emmy and Pepe. There you are in contact with other, touching fates on a daily basis and build up a bond with people. The path to finding little helpers was therefore mapped out from the outset.

Do we only work with people with disabilities?

The very clear answer is no. In addition to our work with workshops, we are also a member of a project model of the Federal Employment Agency. Formally speaking, the employment agency or job centre deals with everything to do with further training and returning to the labour market. The job centre provides advice and job opportunities. This is where we come in. Unemployed people want work too. Unemployed people also want meaning and purpose in life, something to get up for, something worthwhile. So it was obvious for us to offer measures to get the unemployed back into the labour market. The fact that dogs are also seen as comforters and silent therapists helps here. Working with animals opens the hearts of many people, allowing them to leave their worries behind and work through them. We will also be training for the first time from autumn 2021.

Why all this?

We see it as our responsibility to give something back. Thanks to Emmy and Pepe, we are able to care for other people. We are doing well. So why shouldn't we also make sure that other people are well? Because of Viktoria's social background, there was never really an alternative to hiring only "normal" employees, at least not for the work that is also feasible for socially disadvantaged employees. Here, cooperation has a much higher priority and offers many more opportunities than would normally be the case. What's more, our concept has been proving its worth for years. It's not just the joy on our customers' faces that is important to us, it's the overall concept. How could we focus on sustainability and manual labour if we didn't make the most of every opportunity? To break our thoughts down into a few sentences: We are grateful for what we do and are allowed to do. That's why we want to give back some of this gratitude and take care of our fellow human beings. Our company Emmy and Pepe should be just as socially orientated as we are.
